India will be without Jasprit Bumrah for the fourth and final Test against England after the seamer was released from the squad for personal reasons.

Bumrah took four wickets in the first Test at Chennai, which India lost, before being rested for the second as the hosts levelled the series. He returned to the side for this week’s third Test at Ahmedabad but bowled only six overs as spin dominated on a turning pitch that produced a result inside two days.

“Jasprit Bumrah made a request to BCCI to be released from India’s squad ahead of the fourth test owing to personal reasons,” the BCCI said in a statement. “Accordingly, the fast bowler has been released and he will not be available for selection for the fourth test.”

India have opted against calling up a replacement for the final match of the series, which they lead 2-1.

Meanwhile, England bowler Chris Woakes has flown home from the tour for a scheduled period of rest having not featured in either the Sri Lanka or India series.

Woakes, who is set to return to India for the ODI leg next month, was particularly unlucky in Sri Lanka, where he was not picked for being in close contact of team mate Moeen Ali, who tested positive for COVID-19.
