Former Pakistani cricketer Kamran Akmal has lauded team India for their magnificent batting show in the 2nd innings of India vs England 3rd Test at Headingley. Kamran Akmal also feels that India can go past England’s total in the Test. India reached a total of 215-2 at the stumps of Day 2 after good knocks by the top-order batsmen.

While KL Rahul lost his wicket cheaply for 8 runs, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Cheteshwar Pujara came up with knocks of 59, 45*, and 91* respectively. Pujara and Sharma managed an 82-run stand for the 2nd wicket. Later, Kohli and Pujara accounted for an unbeaten 99-run stand for the 3rd wicket. England has managed a 354-run lead over India after the end of 1st innings.

India Can Definitely Go Past England’s Total: Kamran Akmal

While speaking about the match on his YouTube channel, former Pakistani player Kamran Akmal said that India can definitely go past England’s score in the match. He also called the 82-run partnership between Pujara and Sharma an excellent one.

“Team India started just the way they should have in the second innings. KL Rahul got out for 8 but the partnership of 80-plus between Pujara and Rohit Sharma was excellent. England bowlers also had to work hard because of the nature of the pitch. Team India have the batting line-up to drag the Test match longer. They can definitely go past England’s total. If they do that, it will be a measure of the confidence they have in their ability,” Kamran Akmal said.

Heaping praise on Cheteshwar Pujara, Kamran Akmal asserted that his partnerships with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were wonderful.

“Rohit played a brilliant knock but Pujara’s batting was the best act of the day. When he stays at the wicket, he can kill time and keep the scoreboard ticking. Of course, no one expected him to score at the pace that he did. He was in very good flow. Earlier, he was getting out in tentative fashion.

“Pujara handed the pressure very well and helped Team India to a decent position. His partnerships with both Rohit and Kohli were wonderful ones. India performed on par with the kind of batting they possess,” Kamran Akmal further said.

England earlier dismissed India for just 78 all-out in the 1st innings. With 432-10 on the scoreboard in response, England managed a mammoth lead of 354 runs. While England bowlers like James Anderson, Craig Overton, Sam Curran, and Ollie Robinson came up with a fabulous bowling show against India in the 1st innings, Indian pacers could not bowl with similar excellence. For England, Joe Root (121) smacked a century to earn a massive lead for his team.
