India Still 1-0 Up And There Are 2 Tests Left: Mohammed Shami Not Mentally Affected By Team’s Miserable Show Against England In 3rd Test
Indian team suffered a miserable batting collapse against England in the 1st innings of the ongoing Test getting all-out for just 78. However, Indian speedster Mohammed Shami has said that the match situation does affect him mentally since there are still 2 games left in the series.
With 3 wicket-hauls by James Anderson and Craig Overton, England derailed India’s batting from the start of 1st innings. Sam Curran and Ollie Robinson also picked 2 wickets each to crush India to a deteriorating 78 on the scoreboard. While bowling, Mohammed Shami emerged as the most successful bowler for India, picking 3 wickets for 87 runs at the end of Day 2.
There Is No Need To Feel Low Since India Is 1-0 Up: Mohammed Shami
While speaking in the virtual press conference after the day, Mohammed Shami said that the match situation does not affect him mentally and there is no need to feel low.
“No, my friend, mentally (it does not affect), we have finished matches in three days, many matches we have finished in two days. Sometimes when we have a bad day or we get out early in a Test match in the first innings and we have to field for long. It happens sometimes, but there is no need to feel low, because still there are two Tests left”, the right-arm pacer said.
Shami, who smacked a match-winning fifty in the previous Test at Lord’s, also said that India has a 1-0 lead in the series and so there is no need for the team to think negatively.
“And we are 1-0 up, so there is no need to think (negative), just one thing, believe in your skill, and back yourself. It is your responsibility when there is a long partnership from the opposition. It is your job, to take wickets, you have to plan in your mind on how to get the (batsman) out,” the 30-year-old further said.
Against India’s 78, England has posted 423-8 on the scoreboard on Day 2, gaining a mammoth lead of 345 runs. England skipper Joe Root smacked a wonderful century with his 121 runs in the match, registering his 3rd century in the series so far.
Rory Burns (61), Haseeb Hameed (68), and Dawid Malan (70) also played crucial knocks for the home team. Other than Mohammed Shami’s 3 wicket-wicket haul, Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja picked 2 wickets each for India. Jasprit Bumrah also managed to get 1 wicket in his kitty.
