This was followed by another sensational century by Joe Root. It was his third century of the series. England scored a mammoth 432 runs in the second innings and thereby gave India a lead of 354 runs.
India, however, didn’t lose hope and showed fight till the end of day 3. Rohit Sharma scored 59, while Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli scored 91 and 55 runs respectively. At the end of the third day’s play, India were in a pretty good position, having lost just 2 wickets for 215 runs.
Facing the new ball in the first session of the fourth Test was going to be a big task for the Men in Blue. Unfortunately, they couldn’t stand up to the task as England got the remaining eight wickets inside the first session of the fourth day. India were bundled out for 278 runs. England eventually won the game by an innings and 76 runs.
