Pakistan opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq admitted that due to the lack of bilateral series against India, the fixture between the two sides becomes more intense especially in the World Cup. When India clashes against Pakistan, it is an elation of any cricketing fan to watch for. The level of intensity of this game is the top-most factor, even a passive cricket viewer will beware of it.
However, owing to the political tensions between the two neighbouring countries, their meeting has been limited to just ICC events.
I think the biggest factor is that we don’t play bilateral series against India: Imam-ul-Haq
During their last clash in a bilateral series, in 2012-13, Pakistan won 2-1 in the One-day internationals while sharing the T20I series with 1-1. Eight years after the clash, the two sides have not met apart from playing in multi-team tournaments like World Cup or Asia Cup.
Imam revealed that the pressure that comes to Pakistan players is very difficult to handle for them when it comes to playing against India and mentioned that Indian players are experienced in comparison to them.
“I think the biggest factor is that we don’t play bilateral series against India. The match between India and Pakistan is always a big match as we either play them in a World Cup knockout or in the group stage.
“That pressure becomes difficult for our young players to handle. Meanwhile, India has more experienced players in their team, and they know how to cope up with the pressure,” Imam told Samaa TV.
“Apart from this, there is no other reason to say that the Indian team is better than the Pakistani team. As a Pakistani, I would never want Pakistan to lose InshaAllah, we will beat them, but realistically, it would be a very tough game,” he added.
