Former England captain Nasser Hussain warned the England team to not take the Indian team lightly ahead of the fourth Test in Oval, citing the subcontinental giants’ ability to come back from adversity and reminded Joe Root and co. of what happened in Australia earlier this year.

England crushed India by an innings and 76 runs in the third Test in Leeds to level the five-match series 1-1. It was a dominant performance from Joe Root’s men who bounced back in style after losing the second Test at Lord’s. England made 354 after bowling India out for 78 in the first innings and then won the match by keeping India to 278 in the second innings.

Hussain felt that the England team shouldn’t write off India especially after they have their back against the walls and reminded them of their amazing come back in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 in Australia.

They Were Bowled Out For 36 By Australia In Adelaide Late Last Year But Came Back To Pull Off A Famous Series Win: Nasser Hussain

India was bowled out for their lowest Test score ever-36 in the first Test against Australia in Adelaide. Then, captain, Virat Kohli came back home for the birth of his first child, leaving Ajinkya Rahane leader.

India then won the next Test in Melbourne, earned a hard-fought draw in Sydney, and then registered an epic win in Brisbane to win their second consecutive Test series win down under.

“At Headingley, England swung the ball round corners. Skilful as India’s seam bowlers are they did not swing the ball at all. But the last thing England must do now is think they have done the hard work and write India off ahead of Thursday’s fourth Test in south London and the final match at Old Trafford — grounds which should suit their attack better,” the former England captain wrote in his column for The Telegraph.

“Remember, they were bowled out for 36 by Australia in Adelaide late last year but came back to pull off a famous series win. And after Kohli had gone home, too,” he added.

The former England captain also lauded India’s fight spirit and warned England of their comeback, despite captain Virat Kohli not being in form with the bat.

“India do have a lot of strength of character and fight, and central to that is their captain, even though Kohli has looked more like the 2014 version rather than the one who conquered English conditions and England’s attack in 2018,” Hussain wrote.

The fourth Test between England and India begins on September 2nd at the Oval.
