Indian Domestic Season 2021-22 To Start From September 20; BCCI Announces Return Of Ranji Trophy After Being Cancelled Last Year

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will conduct a full domestic season this year after being forced to reduce tournaments, including the Ranji Trophy, last time around due to the pandemic.

The season will commence with the Women’s Under-19 One-Day and Vinoo Mankad Trophy (Men’s Under-19) from September 20 to October 19.

The Ranji Trophy will be held from January 5 to March 20, although it can be changed given the condition of the pandemic in different states. The BCCI is working closely with the Government of India, state regulatory authorities about the hosting of matches.

“The pandemic has been tough on all of us, we have all had to make some hard decisions that have kept us from playing a full-fledged domestic cricket season in India. On behalf of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), we thank all our state associations, administrators, match officials, coaches, and athletes, for their patience and understanding,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah told the state associations in a letter, as seen by Cricbuzz.

White-ball tournaments, Syed Mushtaq Ali Twenty20 Trophy will be played from October 27 to November 22, and The Vijay Hazare One-day Championship will run from December 1 to 29.

BCCI introduces Inter-State A competition

The BCCI has also added an Inter-State A competition for the Under-25 men; the competition replaces the Col CK Nayudu Trophy, an Under-23 Championship. This tournament is scheduled to be played from January 6 to April 2. There are other Under-16 and Under-18 tournaments as well.

The board also informed that state boards that the squad size can be a maximum of 30 members including a minimum of 20 players.

“Accordingly, the number of support staff is capped at a total of 10. Each team is encouraged to have a team physician to manage COVID-related issues. The team physician is separate from the team physiotherapist and is inclusive of the 10 support staff,” the BCCI said.

The last date for the Inter-state transfer and registration of guest players will be 15 days prior to the start of the specific tournament.

4. Women Challenger Trophy (U-19) – October 25 – November 6

5. Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy –October 27 – November 22

6. Senior Women’s One-Day –October 20 – November 20

7. Men’s State A One-Day – November 9 – December 10

8. Vijay Hazare Trophy –December 1 – December 29

9. Senior Women’s Challenger Trophy –November 26 – December 8

10. Ranji Trophy –January 5 – March 20

11. Cooch Behar Trophy (Men’s U-19) – November 21 to February 2

12. CK Nayudu (Men 4-day, U-25)– January 6 – April 2

13. Senior Women’s T20 –February 20 to March 23

14. Vijay Merchant Trophy (Men U-16 ) –November-December
