Former India wicketkeeper-batter Saba Karim hailed Team India’s domestic system which produces cricketers ready for international cricket in all three formats. He underlined his point citing the examples of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal, all three of whom have had success in both white-ball and red-ball cricket.

Saba Karim reckoned that the current Indian team, riding on the aggression of skipper Virat Kohli, has more belief in themselves than the previous Indian teams about winning in overseas Tests.

India have already defeated Australia twice on their last two trips Down Under – the second time with a battered, depleted outfit – and have taken a lead in the ongoing series in England. As things stand Kohli’s men are favourites to defeat England in the series and then next year South Africa as well.

Speaking on the podcast ‘Shandaar Shatak’, Saba Krim said, “Today, Pant, Mayank and Rahul have experience in multiple formats which they gained from domestic level. This is the benefit which they are getting in performing at the international level. And this has also been the team culture of Indian team led by aggression of Virat Kohli.

“Today we have more players than earlier times who are talented and all players have belief that they can beat other countries in their own conditions,” he added.

No other country can compete with India’s multi-format XI: Saba Karim

Saba Karim, who had been in the role of selector previously, opined that India’s eleven comprising multi-format players is the best in the world as no other country, not even England, has so many proven, high-quality players competent in both forms of the game.

“If we make playing XI of multi format players, no other country can compete with us. Many countries today are reluctant to give chance to their white ball players to play red ball. England need to change their mindset. They need to give chances to players who are doing good in any format,” the 53-year-old stated.

The third Test at Headingley commences on August 25. The hosts will be looking to remain in the series, while the visitors will be aiming to take an unassailable lead.
