Injury heartbreak at Olympics for Sayers

Great Britain's Olympic javelin hope Goldie Sayers will not compete for a medal after an elbow injury scuppered her qualification.

A pre-existing elbow problem put paid to Sayers' hopes of reaching the javelin final, scoring three deliberate fouls despite trying to battle through the pain barrier.

Sayers, who had her bad arm strapped up for the event, said afterward: "I caught a nerve in warm-up and couldn't feel my hand.

"Physically I'm in the best shape I have been."
