Chelsea’s reported move for Karim Adeyemi will almost certainly be catching the attention of those at Anfield, given Liverpool’s interest in the winger over the years.

Borussia Dortmund could be open to selling the 22-year-old this summer as it explores other options. The Bundesliga outfit may well look to fund a move for Jadon Sancho, while Lyon’s Rayan Cherki and Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy are also in the offing.

Chelsea could help them in that sense, with German outlet BILD claiming that the Blues have made contact with Adeyemi’s representatives and will look to open talks with Dortmund in the coming days.

The Champions League finalists will reportedly aim for a $32m (£25m/€30m) fee for the winger, which might well reignite some interest from Liverpool.

The Reds have held a long interest in Adeyemi, with the ECHO reporting that they have monitored the German international for six years. In fact, Adeyemi was on trial at Liverpool as a 16-year-old back in 2018.

Back then, the Reds decided SpVgg Unterhaching – Adeyemi’s club at the time – were demanding too large a fee. Red Bull Salzburg would go on to secure his signing for $3.2m (£2.5m/€3m).

Liverpool’s interest didn’t end there though, and the Reds were linked again with Adeyemi in 2022 before he made the move to Dortmund. A third attempt to land his signature could be in the works this summer.

Sky Germany has claimed that Liverpool is among the clubs interested in signing Adeyemi, although nothing concrete has yet been discussed. With Chelsea seemingly making its move, it might be time for the Reds to see if they can make it third time lucky.

Liverpool.com says: Adeyemi will no doubt be a player FSG’s Michael Edwards and Julian Ward have kept an eye on over the years, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they were telling Richard Hughes to make a move for him this summer. It does appear that Slot is set on signing at least one new winger this summer, and Adeyemi would represent a much cheaper option compared to the likes of Anthony Gordon or Eberechi Eze, so the stars may finally align for the Reds.
