Inside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jude Bellingham bromance as England duo bond at Euro 2024

England's midfielder #10 Jude Bellingham celebrates with England's defender #08 Trent Alexander-Arnold after scoring his team's first goal during the UEFA Euro 2024 Group C football match between Serbia and England at the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen on June 16, 2024.

Liverpool supporters will always wonder what might have been with regards to Jude Bellingham. The England international was on the Reds' wish list in 2023 but the club felt the enormous sum needed to sign him from Borussia Dortmund would be better used on multiple midfield acquisitions.

Real Madrid spent $110.5million (£87m/€103m) on Bellingham, roughly what Liverpool splashed out to secure the trio of Wataru Endō, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister. No single player can deliver more than three, whether the intention was deliberately to ‘replace the aggregate’ in Moneyball parlance or not.

But Bellingham was the top scoring midfielder in Europe’s big five leagues this season. The thought of him linking up with the Reds’ creative powerhouse Trent Alexander-Arnold was a tantalizing one when it looked a possibility. The duo get on well off the field too, as has been shown while they are on England duty at Euro 2024.

This was evident in the Three Lions’ opening game in the competition, a 1-0 win over Serbia. It was just the seventh match in which Alexander-Arnold and Bellingham have been on the pitch together, with the latter scoring the only goal of the match.

The players celebrated the strike together by going down on one knee and covering their faces with a hand. According to Bellingham, this was in reference to Wolf, a popular game among the squad. “When we play Wolf, one of the staff loves that face when he doesn't have a clue what is going on so that was a little group celebration for the Wolf crew,” he said (via Daily Mail).

The duo were close at the 2022 World Cup too. Pictures of them together surfaced, along with the idea that Alexander-Arnold was trying to convince Bellingham to join the Reds. With the Liverpool man entering the final year of his contract this summer, supporters are starting to grow concerned that the opposite is now true, with the Real Madrid man trying to lure his pal to the Spanish capital.

Whether that happens – and fingers crossed it absolutely does not – the pair are undoubtedly close. They have also been seen working on a handshake routine. If either of them scores against Denmark on Thursday, they will probably have another new celebration to unveil. Let’s hope the Alexander-Arnold and Bellingham bromance remains for international football only though.

Liverpool.com says: Liverpool fans will be getting nervous. Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are also in the final year of their deals, but their best years are behind them. Losing Alexander-Arnold for free would be a serious blow so supporters will hope Bellingham is not whispering in the ear of his close friend.
