New Liverpool signing Fabio Carvalho has been backed to be a major success at Anfield following his move from Fulham this summer.
The winger joined the Reds for an initial £5million last month, with a further £2.7m payable in add-ons, after a lengthy chase from Jurgen Klopp’s men.
And his former boss Greg Cruttwell believes the attacker has what it takes to do well on Merseyside.
Having moved from Benfica to England in 2013, the 10-year-old joined Balham – who were founded by Greg Cruttwell.
“The type of player he is, he suits [Jurgen] Klopp down to the bone,” Cuttwell told BBC Sport.
“The great thing about him is he keeps things simple. He passes and moves at pace, he sees things. He could be in that generation that replaces the likes of [Roberto] Firmino and Sadio Mane.
“If he has to be patient, he will be, he will keep working hard. I’m very confident he will succeed.”
Carvalho could be handed playmaker role
While Carvalho is unlikely to be used in the wide positions, where the Reds are strong with Mo Salah and Luis Diaz, he could line-up as a No.10 in Klopp’s formation.
That would see the 19-year-old supplying the ammunition for fellow Reds new boy Darwin Nunez.
Carvalho and Nunez are joined by another new face in Calvin Ramsay. The trio in what are likely to be Liverpool’s only signings this summer.
Despite that, the Reds could revisit that situation later in the window – if a number of their fringe stars move on.
