Inter Milan are under pressure to agree a deal to sell right-back Achraf Hakimi, who is among Chelsea’s targets, by the end of the month to ease their financial crisis.

Paris Saint-Germain have been leading the chase for Hakimi, but reports from Italy have claimed Chelsea have matched their bid of around £51million.

Chelsea have not confirmed whether or not they have made an official bid, but it is understood PSG have offered £43m up front with the guarantee of a further £8m, with Inter hanging on for more.

Inter will hope Chelsea’s interest will help to drive up Hakimi’s price to nearer £70m and also accelerate talks aimed at completing a transfer by June 30.

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel wants to add a new right-sided player to his squad this summer and, as well as Hakimi, is interested in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Adama Traore.

Both Hakimi and Traore could play as a right wing-back or as a right winger and the arrival of either man, or a different right-sided player, would add balance to the Chelsea squad.

Tuchel is delighted with the progress of academy graduate Reece James and a new right-sided player would not be coming in to replace the England international.

It is unclear whether or not Chelsea would be prepared to involve themselves in an auction with PSG for Hakimi, something that director Marina Granovskaia has previously looked to avoid.

Inter are interested in Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri and have also been credited with an interest in central defender Andreas Christensen, but the Dane is hoping to sign a new Stamford Bridge contract.

The financial problems of Inter and their need to sell players resulted in Antonio Conte leaving the club despite winning this season’s Serie A title.

With Inter desperate to keep Romelu Lukaku, who is also of interest to Chelsea, the Italians are willing to sacrifice Hakimi to try to improve their finances.

Inter’s Milan rivals AC are preparing an offer of around £3m for striker Olivier Giroud, who scored in France’s final warm-up game ahead of the European Championships.

Chelsea last week revealed Giroud’s contract had been extended by 12 months, but he could still leave this summer with Milan, who will make Fikayo Tomori’s loan move permanent, interested in signing him.

As reported by Telegraph Sport, Chelsea are exploring the possibility of trying to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, either this summer or next, and are interested in West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.
