France celebrate v Jamaica (AFP)

A rampant France will get on the plane to Brazil full of confidence after dominating Jamaica in an amazing 8-0 victory at the Stade Pierre Mauroy.

Braces from Blaise Matuidi, Karim Benzema and Antoine Griezmann as well as goals from Yohan Cabaye and Olivier Giroud shell-shocked an unsuspecting Jamaica side.

Jamaica barely got out of their half and struggled to contain the wonderful free-flowing football France produced even without their star man Franck Ribery who will miss the World Cup with a back injury.

Cabaye got the ball rolling after just 17 minutes slotting the ball home after a wonderful team move before Matuidi smashed the ball from the edge of the area to double the lead three minutes later.

Benzema got his first in the 37th minute with a wonderful curling shot into the top corner before setting up Giroud after half time with a delightful cross that left the Arsenal striker with no option but to tap home.

Benzema got his second with a thunderous strike in the 63rd minute before Patrice Evra crossed low for Matuidi to grab his second with a well taken volley just three minutes later.

Griezmann came on as a substitute and got his first in the 77th minute as Mathieu Valbuena, who had been excellent all night, scuffed a shot from close range allowing the Real Sociedad forward to smash the ball home.

His second came in the 88th minute with a delightful flick facing away from goal as Moussa Sissoko cut the ball back from the left byline.

Jamaica were outplayed and outclassed from first to last and Didier Deschamps will be delighted at how his team applied themselves for the full 90 minutes.

This was certainly one way to boost your confidence before a World Cup.

17’ – FRANCE TAKE THE LEAD! – Cabaye finishes a lovely team move he started with a header to Valbuena. He flicked the ball to Giroud in front of him who headed down to Cabaye just five yards out. He took one touch before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper.

20’ – QUICK DOUBLE! – France double the lead as Cabaye again sets up Benzema on the left who saw Matuidi in space on the edge of the area. The PSG midfielder took one touch before smashing the ball home low at the near post.

38’ – WHAT A GOAL! – The third France goal came from some incisive one-touch play between Valbuena, Matuidi and Benzema before the Real Madrid striker drifted into the left side of the box and sent a pearler into the top corner giving the keeper no chance.

53’ – AND THAT IS FOUR! – Benzema gets onto a delightful chipped ball by Cabaye in the left channel. He gets his head up and sees Giroud free in the box and puts in a first time cross of the highest quality which Giroud taps home.

63’ – BENZEMA AGAIN! – The Real Madrid striker is left with time and space as he drifts into the box. He picks his spot and larrops the ball into the top corner leaving the Jamaican goalkeeper stunned.

66’ – ANOTHER QUICKFIRE GOAL! – This time Evra bursts down the left wing and delivers a cross which finds Matuidi sprinting on to it. He coolly volleys the ball home for six!

77’ – THIS IS GETTING SILLY! – Benzema wins the ball in the middle before getting into the box and cutting the ball back to Valbuena who can’t sort out his feet. He falls over but the ball rolls to Griezmann at the far post who slots the ball home with ease.

89’ – EIGHT-NIL! – Sissoko busts a gut down the left wing and gets to the byline where he cuts it back to Griezmann. Facing away from goal he flicks the ball round the corner and into the far post for France’s eighth goal of the game.

Karim Benzema has now scored five in his last six games for France while Giroud has been involved in three of Frances last six, scoring twice and assisting one.

France have played their first international game in Lille since 1914 today.

This is the first time France and Jamaica have ever met at international level.

France have now lost just one of their last 11 games, winning seven.

Jamaica mustered one shot on goal all game.

Will France make do without Frank Ribery? On tonight’s evidence, yes. They were fluid, creative, fast and skilful which is a deadly combination. The opposition may be stronger at the World Cup but if these players can recreate this kind of form, Didier Deschamps could be leading Les Bleus into a very successful summer.

Karim Benzema – What didn’t he do tonight? He scored goals, he created space, he didn’t stop running and he caused absolute mayhem. He even set up his teammates who had taken his position up front. All-round brilliant night’s work for the Real Madrid striker.
