INVERKIP Hotel has applied for permission to keep using an outdoor seating area which it says has been a 'critical element' in its success.

Proposals that would allow the popular village venue to continue utilising a vacant space next to its indoor restaurant as a designated outdoor dining space.

The Covid-19 pandemic saw a relaxation in planning requirements around the provision of outdoor areas, which the hotel took advantage of when it opened its own space in May 2021.

Planning documents state that no permanent alterations have been made to the area, which is at the rear of the property, but they say that 'substansial' investment was required for furniture, licensing compliance, health and safety compliance, fire safety compliance, and garden design.

In the application bar bosses say the investment was to ensure a professional, safe, aesthetically in-keeping and suitable-for-purpose guest area was created.

They add that the outdoor area has become a major part of the hospitality businesses' success due to the change in customer habits and the 'challenging industry landscape' they have continued to face since the pandemic began.
