Former Pakistan batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq felt that India deserved the win at Lord’s for their consistent performances in the first Test at Nottingham and was impressed by India’s approach. After having lost the toss, India was put in to bat first in a tough day 1 pitch and the Indian openers responded in the best way possible by sharing a century partnership for the first wicket.

It started off from there and in the second innings when India batted, it was the middle order that chipped it. Towards the end of day four, the onus was on Rishabh Pant to deliver and take India home to safety. But the tailenders contributed really well and took India to a comfortable position.

He added the attitude and aggression of the Indian team impressed him a lot.

Inzamam-Ul-Haq Stresses The Importance Of The Tailender Partnership

Inzamam notified that the tail ender’s contribution could define the strength of a team and lauded Mohammad Shami for scoring a memorable unbeaten half-century in the second innings. He added that the partnership between Shami and Bumrah of 89 shattered England’s hopes in the Test.

“If you want to assess the strength of any team, you’ll get to know about the strength of the team when their tail order bats. They fight, and you are aware of their strength. So, when Shami scored his 50, the batsmen above him were dismissed, but he fought and this partnership was crucial to break England down,” he added.
