Evans, 49, later shared a screenshot of the news report on her Instagram and wrote: “Oh. Ok. Thanks for letting me know. I guess?” followed by a teary-eyed emoji.
Representatives for both Evans and Gruffudd have been contacted by the Standard for comment.
The estranged couple - who married in 2007 - share daughters Ella, 11 and Elsie, seven. It is not clear whether they signed a prenuptial agreement.
It comes after a tumultuous few weeks for the couple.
The couple’s relationship first hit the headlines in January after Evans tweeted to say Gruffudd was leaving her and their two children.
Evans alleged in a statement on Twitter the actor had been “mentally torturing” and “gaslighting” her. Evans claimed her husband had said “he no longer loves me.”
The original statement was later deleted.
Evans then claimed it was her estranged husband who had removed the message from her account.
She posted another Twitter message, that read: “Hi there. I didn’t delete the tweet from a few hours ago about him leaving. He did. From my account...
“And hell yes when I am being gaslit and mentally tortured then hell yes I will wash my linen in public.”
The message was also later deleted.
Then, in February, Evans said the couple were “still friends” and said they were in discussions about a “legal separation.”
In another social media post at the time, the star addressed why she had decided to make their split so public.
Evans wrote: “It must be weird to comprehend why somebody would share their pain on social media rather than with their nearest and dearest.
“I get that. You must think I’m an a**hole. I’m not though. I don’t have a mum, or a dad. I don’t have any close friends in LA. I’ve looked after my kids for half their lives alone. My husband knows that.
“We are indeed discussing legal separation, but we are still friends. You can say what you want about me being an attention seeker but you know it’s not true. You just want a reason to put me down. Please - go ahead. I’m impenetrable.”
The Welsh actor has spoken out about the separation. He stopped to briefly speak with photographers last month in Los Angeles.
He said: “Look, as I said before, it’s an extremely difficult time for the family, our thoughts are with our children obviously right now and I’d really respect a little bit of privacy right now, thank you.”
Gruffudd and Evans met on the set of 2000 film 102 Dalmatians.
Gruffudd had a role in 1997 blockbuster Titanic, before starring in ITV series Hornblower from 1998-2003.
His other film roles include Black Hawk Down, Horrible Bosses and San Andreas.
