Four Australia pacers – Pat Cummins, Kane Richardson, Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith – are likely to pull out of the UAE leg of the IPL 2021, which will commence from September 19 and will end on October 15, just two days before the start of the T20 World Cup.

Pat Cummins, the Kolkata Knight Riders spearhead speedster, is expecting the birth of his child during the period of the second half of the tournament and hence, he has previously stated that he won’t participate any further in the tournament.

The other three, Kane Richardson (Royal Challengers Bangalore), and Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith (both Punjab Kings), are all also touted to pull out, although no official statement either from the players or the franchise has been made yet. Kane Richardson and Pat Cummins are part of Australia’s T20 World Cup squad.

“Fast bowlers Pat Cummins, Kane Richardson, Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith are among the contracted Australian players who are not expected to return,” a report in cricket.com.au stated.

Kane Richardson was one of the Australian players, along with Adam Zampa and AJ Tye, who had returned home during the first leg of the IPL in India due to the closure of Australia borders due to covid-19 concerns. Now, all of them can return to play for their respective franchises, but Kane may opt-out. However, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Steve Smith will return to the IPL, barring any last-minute withdrawals.

Nathan Ellis gets an IPL contract as a replacement player

Nathan Ellis has had a sudden rise in world cricket. The pacer took a hat-trick on his T20I debut against Bangladesh recently, and was selected as one of the three reserves to travel to the World Cup.

It has been reported that the 26-year-old has now signed a contract with one of the IPL franchises.

“Ellis was being chased by three IPL franchises for the upcoming tournament before agreeing to terms with an unnamed team on Thursday night,” the cricket.com.au said.

With plenty of players pulling out of the tournament, Ellis is signed as a replacement and can be a surprise package for batsmen.

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will kick off the UAE leg of the tournament on September 19 in Dubai.
