IPL 2021: Chris Gayle Withdraws From The Rest Of The Tournament; Exits Bio-Bubble

Punjab Kings (PBKS) batsman Chris Gayle has withdrawn himself from the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) leaving the IPL bio-bubble due to bubble fatigue.

Incidentally, the veteran batsman has been a part of a couple of b bio-bubbles in recent times having played for West Indies and in the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League (CPL). In a statement released by Punjab Kings, Chris Gayle stated that he wants to take some time off ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to commence on October 17 in the UAE and Oman.

“Over the last few months, I have been a part of the CWI bubble, CPL bubble followed by the IPL bubble, and I wish to mentally recharge and refresh myself. I want to refocus on helping the West Indies in the T20 World Cup and would like to take a break in Dubai. My thanks to the Punjab Kings for giving me the time off. My wishes and hopes are with the squad always. All the very best for the games coming up,” Chris Gayle said.

Chris Gayle has represented Punjab Kings in 10 matches this season scoring 193 runs at a strike rate of 125.32.

Punjab Kings head coach Anil Kumble, who has seen Chris Gayle from close quarters stated that as a franchise they respect his decision.

“I’ve played against Chris and have coached him at Punjab Kings and all through the years I’ve known him he has always been an absolute professional and we as a team respect his decision and desire to prepare himself for the T20 World Cup,” Kumble said.

Punjab Kings, who are currently sixth in the points table will play Kolkata Knight Riders next on Friday in Dubai.
