Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has started training inside his hotel room as he completes his mandatory isolation before reuniting with the squad ahead of the second phase of IPL 2021. The tournament is scheduled to commence on September 19 with the defending champions playing against Chennai Super Kings in the UAE.

With the fifth and final Test between India and England canceled, the cricketers landed in the UAE and have already begun their quarantine. Rohit Sharma, who is currently in isolation, was recently seen cycling inside his hotel room.

Mumbai Indians shared a couple of pictures of their skipper where he was doing some physical exercises to keep himself prepared. They captioned the post as:

“Rohit Sharma can lead India well” – Madan Lal

Amid all the speculations of Virat Kohli stepping down as India’s white-ball captain after the T20 World Cup, former India cricketer Madan Lal has backed the split captaincy theory saying that Rohit Sharma to step in to ease Virat Kohli’s pressure.

“I guess this could be a nice option. We are in a very good position right now. We are lucky that we have Rohit Sharma in the team and whenever Virat Kohli feels that he wants to concentrate on one or two formats then Rohit can step in, and he has a lot of experience,” Madan told IANS.

“So, in a way, I feel it will benefit India. I read that Virat is likely to step down from captaincy (of ODI and T20) as he wants to concentrate on his batting, which is a good idea I guess. I don’t know whether it is a rumour or what… but the split captaincy plan could benefit India in a big way. It all depends on what Virat is thinking right now. India as a team is doing a great job, we have seen that in England (Test series) recently. So, let’s see what happens,” he added.
