Ravindra Jadeja scored 32 off just 15 balls as Chennai Super Kings posted 189 batting first against Rajasthan Royals. His knock was followed by a breathtaking century from Ruturaj Gaikwadwho scored his maiden IPL ton. He was on95 facing the final ball of the CSK innings and thumped it for a six to score his maiden IPL ton.

Ravindra Jadeja took the onus upon himself to score big runs in the final over. In the second ball of the over, Jadeja premeditated the full toss fromMustafizur and went down on one knee way before the left-arm pacer delivered the ball. It actually turned out to be a full-toss and Jadeja swatted it for a six-over-deep square leg. It was one of the many outrageous shots that he played on the night.

Despite the defeat, CSK are topping the points table courtesy of a better net run-rate than Delhi Capitals who beat Mumbai Indians on Saturday to get to 18 points as well.

“Often when you lose the game it can get brushed under the carpet but it was a brilliant innings. I think the batsmen must assess quickly what is a good score, and you tend to go hard in the T20 format and then realise that it’s not a 160-180 wicket. They assessed the conditions quickly, and they didn’t let pressure get to the middle order. Deepak was really good with the new ball in earlier games, and we did miss him, because today the bowlers were under the pump. We could have used the dimensions better in terms of setting fields too. It’s important to forget but also learn from this game, because there’s no point learning if this happens in a playoff match” said MS Dhoni on the innings of both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Jadeja.
