Hardik Pandya led the Gujarat Titans to IPL glory in their first season in the competition after they beat the Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets. Playing at home in front of az packed Narendra Modi Stadium, with a report attendance of over 100 000, the Titans were asked to bowl after losing the toss. Pandya starred with the ball, ripping through the top order to grab figures of 3/17 from his four overs. It was a huge problem for the Royals that have risked a top-heavy batting lineup for the entire tournament and were finally exposed. On top of that, they had also gotten off to a very slow start with Jashasvi Jaiswal needing eight balls of the first powerplay to even get off the mark. Devdutt Padikkal also really struggled, taking up 10 balls for his two. Jos Buttler struggled early on but battled to a solid 39 off 35 balls but without anyone coming in to increase the runrate, the Royals were unable to post a dangerous total.

They eventually set a miserly 130/9 off their 20 overs. The Royals defence started out decently enough with the early dismissals of Wriddhiman Saha and Matthew Wade but Pandya stepped up with the bat as well. He contributed 34 off 30 balls to support Shubman Gill, who ended 45 not out off 43 balls. David Miller came in after Pandya was dismissed to finish the game off with his usual flair to blast 32 off just balls. The Titans had an over and five balls to spare as they crusied to a maiden title in their first ever appearance in the competition.
Gujarat Titans 133 for 3 (Gill 45*, Hardik 34, Boult 1-14) beat Rajasthan Royals 130 for 9 (Buttler 39, Hardik 3-17, Sai Kishore 2-20) by seven wickets.
