There have been two names synonymous with Chennai Super Kings: captain MS Dhoni and deputy Suresh Raina. Of the 13 completed seasons so far, the left-hander has played 10 seasons in the yellow jersey – he featured for the Gujarat Lions in 2016 and 2017 when CSK was banned and had opted out of the IPL 2020.

Suresh Raina, who retired from international cricket last year, though, made his return to the IPL this year in the IPL 2021 and the pair of Dhoni and Raina was reunited.

However, now with the mega auction staged ahead of next season, and his form not at the level as it was, Suresh Raina is likely to be released by the franchise and would be needed to find a new team.

In a recent interview with RJ Raunac, the 34-year-old was asked about which team he’d prefer to play if not the Super Kings. Suresh Raina said he’d like to bat for the Delhi Capitals.

“Delhi hai! Ghar bhi pass hai, Muradnagar se pass hai, aur kaafi dost hai us team mein. So, I’d prefer Delhi,” he reasoned.

Suresh Raina has scored 4650 runs for CSK and 841 for the now-defunct Gujarat Lions, making him the third-highest IPL run-scorer currently, behind Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan.

The CSK contingent have completed their quarantine in Dubai and have begun their practise and training sessions as fans await their return for the second half of the IPL 2021.

After a disappointing season last year – when CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time –, the Yello Army roared back with 5 wins in 7 matches and are placed second on the points table.

They will take on defending champions Mumbai Indians on September 19 in Dubai. In the last game between the two sides, in Delhi, Rohit Sharma’s side prevailed on the back of a thunderous knock from Kieron Pollard, who scored 87 off 34 balls helping Mumbai chase down 219 on the last ball of the game.
