IPL Team Wise Players In India’s Squad For T20 World Cup 2021. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Wednesday, announced India’s squad for the upcoming edition of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The tournament which is slated to take place from October 17-November 15, is being played almost after a year it was originally scheduled to.
Ever since the inception of the Indian Premier League in 2008, the league has given India a plethora of cricketers who have gone on to rule world cricket. IPL, in its true sense, has been a birthplace for a lot of current Indian players and IPL has given India the bench strength that can beat any side in the world of cricket.
Now, that a 15-member Indian squad has been picked which will represent the country in the ICC T20 World Cup this year in the UAE, let’s take a look at how each franchise has contributed to team India’s squad for T20 World Cup 2021.
IPL Team Wise Players In India’s Squad For T20 World Cup 2021
Chennai Super Kings (CSK)- 1; Including Reserves- 3
One of the biggest names of the IPL, Chennai Super Kings, could only contribute one player to the Indian team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in the form of Ravindra Jadeja. The all-rounder has been chosen as the first-choice spin-bowling all-rounder for team India. However, if the reserve players are added, CSK has contributed a total of 3 players to the Indian team.
Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar have been named the travelling reserves for team India alongside Shreyas Iyer. CSK has been one of the most-decorated IPL franchises of all time with 3 titles in its bag and the most wins in terms of the number of games played in the tournament.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)- 1; Including Reserves- 1
From KKR, only 1 player could make the cut in the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup and he is none other than the mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy. The young spinner who hails from Tamil Nadu has been one of the biggest bowling revelations in Indian cricket in the last couple of years.
Varun Chakravarthy dismissed MS Dhoni twice in IPL 2020 and it will surely be one of the highlights of his career. However, he hasn’t been able to showcase his true might in the Indian colours so far and the mystery spinner would certainly like to change that going into the T20 World Cup 2021.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)- 1; Including Reserves- 1
Another very giant of the Indian Premier League, the Royal Challengers Bangalore could manage to contribute only 1 player in the India T20 World Cup squad and he is none other than India’s very own skipper, Virat Kohli. It was a shocker of news when Yuzvendra Chahal’s and Washington Sundar’s omissions were announced as the squad was brought to the fore.
RCB has so far failed to win an IPL trophy ever since the inception of the tournament. However, they have had one of the strongest squads year after year going into the IPL.
SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)- 1; Including Reserves- 1
From SunRiseers Hyderabad, only Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the veteran Indian swing bowler, could make the cut in the 15-member Indian squad announced on Wednesday. Bhuvneshwar, who has played 51 T20Is for team India, has also picked 50 wickets in the format for the Men in Blue.
He has been associated with SRH ever since the formation of the franchise in IPL 2014. He also won the Purple Cap in IPL 2016 for SunRisers Hyderabad in their title-winning season.
Punjab Kings (PBKS)- 2; Including Reserves- 2
From Punjab Kings, a couple of Indian players made it into India’s squad for the T20 World Cup. PBKS’ skipper KL Rahul, will be seen opening the innings alongside Rohit Sharma in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. On the other hand, Mohammed Shami, the veteran pacer from PBKS has also been selected in India’s T20 World Cup squad.
KL Rahul won the IPL 2020 Orange Cap as he ended the tournament as the top run-scorer. In IPL 2021, he wasn’t far behind when the tournament came to a halt as he finished only on the 2nd position after Shikhar Dhawan in the list of the top run-scorers.
Delhi Capitals- 3; Including Reserves- 4
Delhi Capitals have transformed themselves as one of the giants of the tournament especially in the last couple of years in the IPL. Ever since their rebranding ahead of IPL 2019, Delhi Capitals have emerged as a completely new side and are now among the top contenders to win the IPL trophy every year.
They reached the playoffs in IPL 2019 and then were the runner-ups of the tournament in 2020. In IPL 2021, they were leading the points table when the tournament came to a standstill. Their contribution in India’s T20 World Cup squad has also been great as they have contributed a total of 3 players to the squad in the form of Rishabh Pant, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Axar Patel. Shreyas Iyer has been named as a travel reserve in the side.
Mumbai Indians (MI)- 6; Including Reserves- 6
The most successful franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League, the Mumbai Indians had to be on the top of the list when it comes to the number of IPL players representing team India in the T20 World Cup. Mumbai Indians has given a total of 6 players to the Indian T20 World Cup squad.
