Ipswich Town man hits out at Jota Silva 'squeal' in Nottingham Forest defeat
Ipswich Town defender Cameron Burgess said Jota Silva ‘squealed’ to earn Nottingham Forest the decisive penalty in today’s Premier League match at the City Ground.
Wood converted from the spot to give his side a 1-0 victory and draw himself level with Bryan Roy at the top of the club’s Premier League goal charts.
Other than that it wasn’t the most scintillating of games but it did set Forest back on winning ways – even if it was slightly disputed.
Centre-back Burgess revealed team-mate Sammie Szmodics didn’t feel there was contact and that referee Tony Harrington responded to Jota Silva’s reaction.
"Szmods didn't think he'd got him. I haven't seen it. He went down in a heap and made a loud noise and a squeal, they sometimes get given because of that,” Burgess told the BBC.
"We showed our fitness levels to go right to the end of the game. it's all about improving and working hard. I think we can keep going the way we're going and keep improving."
However, Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna was less critical of the decision: "I think it was a pretty even game. It wasn't the most high-quality game of the season. First half was really even. it really felt like a first-goal game. We would have been in a great position but it was them that got it. We're disappointed, it's a poor penalty to give away from our perspective.
"We had plenty of moments in the first half. We had chances, we had a lot of pressure. The first goal felt important and on another day, we would have got it. Fine margins.
"I can understand why it was given. He lunged in from behind and you're giving the referee a decision to make. I've not seen it close up but I can see why it was given in real time. I don't think we can say we hit our best level to win the game but I think we deserved something. We've got steps to make if we are to consistently win.”
