There are many offensive things in football; racism, homophobia, Jose Mourinho’s tactics. But according to Iranian state television, AS Roma’s badge is so offensive it needs to be blurred out.

The Italians spent Wednesday night getting roundly spanked at Barcelona, losing their Champions League quarter-final first leg 4-1, but while that was happening Iran’s Voice and Vision organisation was more concerned with the Rome side’s badge.

The Rome club’s logo has featured an image of the cit’y twin founders Romulus and Remus being suckled by the Capitoline Wolf, as per the ancient myth, since the club was formed in 1927.

But the Iranian station clearly felt uncomfortable by the badge and blurred out the female wolf’s teats on the club badge, much to the bemusement of viewers.

“In 3,000 years, Remus and Romulus were only deprived of their mother’s milk, but Iran’s state broadcaster deprived them of even a wolf’s milk,” Denmark-based Iranian sports journalists Mehdi Rostampour wrote on his Telegram channel.

Where will this end? Just imagine if Iranian state TV ever broadcast any games from Swiss club BSC Young Boys at the Wankdorf Stadium….
