Ireland will be without their main fast bowler Boyd Rankin for the two-match series against England next month.
Rankin has not played for Warwickshire this season or any cricket since January due to a lower back injury that has now ruled him out of a chance to play against England. Rankin played one Test for England on the last Ashes tour and seven ODIs before requalifying to play for Ireland last year.
The series starts at Bristol on May 5 and finishes at Lord’s two days later. England will use the series to look at some fringe players. Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes will still be playing in the IPL opening up opportunities for others ahead of the Champions Trophy.
England name their squad for the ODIs against Ireland, South Africa and Champions Trophy at Edgbaston next Tuesday.
Lancashire’s Liam Livingstone, Surrey's Tom Curran and Somerset's Craig Overton will come into the reckoning for the Ireland series.
England’s leading players will all return for the South Africa series of three matches at the end of May, which leads into the Champions Trophy in June.
