Stuart Pearce says Man Utd winger Antony “irritates the life out of me” as he watched him fail “to make an impact” in a 1-0 win over Wolves.

Marcus Rashford climbed off the bench at half-time, after being left out for disciplinary issues, and scored the only goal of the game on 76 minutes to take the Red Devils up to fifth in the Premier League standings.

Antony could not convert a brilliant opportunity at the end of the first half and former Man City boss Pearce thought he was the worst of the Man Utd attackers.

“Antony has got no intention of tracking back, Wolves can get a lot of joy down that side,” Pearce during commentary on talkSPORT, early in the first half.

He later added: “Antony has failed to make an impact – he’s given away the ball on far too many occasions.”

At half-time, Pearce continued: “He irritates the life out of me, every time he gets the ball he points to his teammates and tells them what they should do.

“I saw recently Ten Hag and Fernandes said he would be a really good player if he listened. He’s certainly doing more talking than listening right now.”

And Pearce was shocked that Ten Hag felt the need to bring Alejandro Garnacho off for Rashford instead of Antony at half-time.

“I thought Garnacho was the best of the front three in the first half,” Pearce said. “I’m surprised that Antony is still on the pitch, but it may be positional thing.”

Speaking after the match, Man Utd left-back Luke Shaw hailed Rashford for his brilliant composure and finish to win the Red Devils the game.

Shaw told BBC Sport: “He is in a really good way at the moment. Extremely confident, very positive. He is world class and he can be one of the best players in the world if he keeps going.”

On playing at centre-back against Wolves, Shaw added: “I’m really enjoying it. I said to the manager I will play wherever he wants me to. It helps playing next to Varane. I’ve really enjoyed it with him talking to me all the time and helping me. I’m really happy to get the win and keep a clean sheet.”

On discipline at Man Utd, Shaw continued: “At a top club like this it has to be like that. There has to be discipline. The manager takes all of that into consideration. People have got away with silly things before. Like you’ve seen today, if you don’t do the little things right then you won’t play.”
