BLACKBURN Rovers boss Tony Mowbray insists midfielder Joe Rothwell is staying put in this transfer window, despite multiple bids from Cherries.

The 27-year-old is out of contract in the summer, but has played a key role in firing Rovers up to second in the Championship this season.

Cherries have reportedly seen three bids turned down for the former Manchester United man this month, but Mowbray revealed the Dorset club are not the only ones to have shown an interest.

Speaking in a press conference today, Mowbray said of Rothwell: "Him moving to Bournemouth is not going to happen.

“What I find really interesting in your world is how you pick up certain things and don’t get other things.

“We’ve had bids twice as much as much as what Bournemouth have bid, which hasn't been mentioned anywhere, which is okay from me, it doesn’t really matter.

“But some clubs have bid twice the number Bournemouth are bidding and he’s still not going anywhere.

“That’s great credit to the owners at this moment that we’re going to give this team the best benefit.

“In four days' time Joe Rothwell is worth nothing to us really, other than trying to help us get to where we want to go.”

Cherries head to rock-bottom Barnsley on Saturday (3pm).
