Player ratings, a true obsession for fans, though often a sore point for the athletes themselves when they receive a lower score than anticipated.

Despite a positive performance from Liverpool in the win over AC Milan, the Italian press weren't as impressed. Corriere della Sera, straight out of Milan, had Cody Gakpo as the top dog of the match, but pinned him at just a 7.5, softening the blow with praise: "Among the best at the European Championship with Holland, he continues to amaze: high quality, high speed."

Another Dutch sensation for Liverpool, Ryan Gravenberch, kept on surprising too. After a sterling performance, his display was championed by his boss, and our very own player assessment doled out an impressive 8.

The Corriere della Sera newspaper rated the players with some amusing insights: they gave a 6 to one Liverpool star, acknowledging his essential role as "Running and stage presence: he raises a wall, complete with moat and barbed wire", attesting to his dominance in his position.

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker received the same score, his time on the pitch humorously described: "A goal without fault, then he just gets bored."

Defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold ("a relentless toll-taker"), as well as scorers Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk ("The man of providence is not only a master of defence: he finds the goal with a pure bomber's shot. Eclectic."), each earned a 7. However, Kostas Tsimikas was deemed "careless" with a slightly lower score of 5.5.

In the midfield, Alexis Mac Allister's "zigzagging" efforts merited a 6, while Dominik Szoboszlai - remembered as "AC Milan's forbidden dream in the summer of 2020, he is ruthless in the hat-trick" - nabbed a 6.5.

That score also went to Mohamed Salah, who despite being "Not blessed with luck: a regular at the crossbar, which he hits twice. The best is behind him, but what a player, Momo", outperformed Diogo Jota (5.5), who reportedly "left his killer instinct at home."

Corriere della Sera handed Liverpool's head coach Slot a respectable 7, summing up: "Full victory, deserved, from a great team: the fear lasts a quarter of an hour, then it's a lesson in play. The running-in is not complete, but the newly retired Klopp can rest easy: his dear Liverpool is in good hands."

In contrast, beleaguered AC Milan manager Paulo Fonseca received a dismal rating of just 4.5. His team didn't perform much better.
