Edinson Cavani scored a late winner as Napoli remained in touch of Serie A leaders Juventus with a 2-1 win against Parma.

Marek Hamsik slid in to finish Blerim Dzemaili''s inch-perfect through ball but Parma levelled through a Paolo Cannavaro own goal after the break.

But with only five minutes to play, Cavani rounded goalkeeper Antonio Mirante to seal a big win.

Second-placed Napoli were looking to capitalise on Juventus’ 1-1 draw against struggling Genoa this weekend.

Walter Mazzarri’s side were forced to weather an early storm as Parma pinned Napoli inside their own half for the opening ten minutes. But Napoli survived and created the best chance of the game when Juan Camilo Zuniga cut back to Goran Pandev, who could only hook his shot over from close range.

But Napoli took the lead moments later with a slick finish. Dzemaili slotted an inch-perfect through ball to Hamsik, who only had to slide the ball first time beyond Antonio Mirante.

Parma created more chances after the break and eventually struck back after good work by Nicola Sansone. His low drilled cross caused chaos in the Napoli defence, and eventually deflected off Cannavaro and into the Napoli net.

Parma substitute Amauri made a big difference after coming off the bench, and the home side looked the more likely to snatch a winner. But Napoli kept their heads and Cavani, moments after losing his footing in front of goal to spurn a good chance, maintained his composure to round Mirante and stroke in the winner.
