Tyler Morton has admitted he could leave Liverpool during the January transfer window. The midfielder has been limited to four appearances for the Reds this season, after spending the last two years on loan in the Championship with Hull City and Blackburn Rovers.

The 22-year-old completed 60 minutes in Liverpool’s 4-0 victory over Accrington Stanley, having initially been an injury doubt for the game. And while he impressed in midfield, he admitted he has found his limited role under Arne Slot difficult.

Previously of interest to the likes of Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, Morton admits he will have to ‘be a bit selfish’ when it comes to his future as he opened the door to a mid-season Reds exit.

“Definitely, it's been tough for me this season minutes-wise,” he said. “I think I've handled it very well. I've kept my head down, given it everything every day.

“I think I do deserve a chance. I got the chance today, hopefully people think I took it. I think I had a good game.

“It was exciting, when you don't get many chances, it's rare, you've got to take them and I think I did today.

“This month is obviously a big month for myself. It's decision time. I think I'm ready to kick on and be a proper professional.

“Definitely, I think I'm ready to kick on now and ready to move up a step. If that's here or if that's somewhere else, football's football.

“I've got to go and be a bit selfish and go with however I feel.”

A Liverpool academy graduate, Morton has made 13 appearances for the club to date after initially breaking into the first team under Jurgen Klopp back in the 2021/22 season.

While his Reds career might be nearing its end, Liverpool handed out its latest debut against Accrington as 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha became the youngest ever player to start a game for the club.

And Morton has backed the former Chelsea forward to go on and enjoy a very successful career after being left impressed by his Reds’ debut.

“I was buzzing for him. He's a lovely lad as well as a top, top player,” he told LFC TV. “He's going to go very far in the game in my opinion.

“He's done brilliantly today and took it today with loads of confidence, and I'm so proud of him.”
