Euskaltel-Euskadi’s Gorka Izagirre won the one-day 166km Prueba Villafranca-Ordiziako Klasika after triumphing in a sprint finish.

The Spaniard, who finished 39th in the recent Tour de France, held of Colombia-Coldeportes’s Johan Estaban Chaves and Miguel Angel Rubiano (Androni Giocattoli-Venezuela) to take the line and secure the win after four hours, three minutes and 17 seconds.

The 24-year-old, who picked up his first victory of the season with the win, stuck with Chaves when the Colombian attacked 10 kilometres from the line before snatching the win.

Chaves made his move on the final climb of the day, quickly pursued by Izagirre and Rubiano, while Movistar’s Andrey Amador, who eventually finished fourth, led the chasing pack on the descent to catch the two escapees with just over a kilometre to go.
