Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has accused Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher of 'disrespecting' Arsene Wenger, following remarks on a recent episode of the Stick to Football podcast in which he ranked Jurgen Klopp above the French manager.

Klopp celebrated the end of his nine-year Anfield reign with a 2-0 victory against Wolves this weekend - a term during which he led the Reds to Champions League and Premier League title victories.

Carragher, who amassed more than 700 caps for the Merseyside club, rated Klopp's career over Wenger's due to their respective records. But Gunners-trained Wilshere was quick to respond, criticising Carragher's bias towards his former manager and defending Wenger, who gained entry into the Premier League Hall of Fame in 2021.

Taking to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Wilshere retorted: "Klopp unbelievable how he transformed Liverpool but Arsene's legacy in the Premier League is second to none. Sorry Jamie but you are miles off it, please don't be so biased and respect Arsene and what he done over a longer period, including leading the only team in the Premier League to be invincible.

"Everyone appreciates what Pep has done and changed the way we see football in this country but don't forget AW had a similar effect when he came in 96! You know that era better than me and witnessed it so let's not forget that!"

Wenger clinched three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups over his 22-year tenure, earning him a reputation as one of the league's all-time managerial greats. Carragher's assessment sparked debate among fans on social media, with supporters making cases for both Klopp and Wenger following the ex-Liverpool defender's comments.

The pundit reiterated his commendation for Klopp in another tweet, making a Champions League point over the two managers. He stated: "Klopp won the CL and got to another three finals in his career. Wenger got to one final. Wenger was a genius competing with Utd with less money, but when Chelsea came they couldn't compete. Klopp has competed with City/United/Chelsea all spending a billion quid!"
