Newcastle Knights have confirmed the signing of Jackson Hastings from Wests Tigers on a three-year deal.

Hastings, 26, has played 63 NRL games after making his debut with the Sydney Roosters in 2014.

He also made 75 Super League appearances with Salford and Wigan and won four test caps for Great Britain in 2019.

The playmaker returned Down Under ahead of the 2022 season with Wests Tigers, and had one year remaining on his contract. He made 16 appearances in his return season, finishing bottom of the NRL ladder.

Newcastle Knights director of football Peter Parr said: “We are delighted to have Jackson secured.

“He compliments our playing roster and adds further depth to our halves, with the additional bonus of being a competent goal kicker.

“Jackson is at a stage of his career where he is coming into his prime. And we believe his best years are ahead of him.”

The deal has seen forward David Klemmer go the other way on a three-year deal, with the option of a fourth.

Klemmer, 28, joined the Knights in 2019. He went on to make 81 appearances for the side, including finals in 2020 and 2021.

The Australia and New South Wales representative has played 194 NRL games across ten seasons with both Canterbury Bulldogs and Newcastle Knights.

He has won 19 caps for the Kangaroos.

“I can’t wait to rip into pre-season training. I’m really excited about what’s ahead for us,” said Klemmer.

“I know Tim (Sheens) well through our time together with the Kangaroos. There’s a lot to like about where the club is headed.

“In many ways it’s a new start for the club. I’m delighted to be a part of it.

“I want to make a difference here and that includes helping some of the younger players who haven’t played a lot of first grade yet.”
