Jadon Sancho gesture makes true Man United feelings clear after first Chelsea goal vs Southampton
Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho showed his allegiances are firmly with Chelsea after scoring his first goal for the club in a 5-1 victory over Southampton on Wednesday night.
Enzo Maresca's side were already 4-1 up heading into the final moments on the South Coast when Sancho hammered in their fifth at goalkeeper Joe Lumley's near post. As he wheeled away towards the travelling supporters, a beaming Sancho was seen patting the club crest before being embraced by teammates.
This gesture from a player is often done to symbolise their affection for the club but has often been mocked as being meaningless considering the ruthless nature of modern-day football. It is unsurprising to see Sancho show his allegiance to his loan club after the turbulent end to his United career.

In the summer, Sancho moved to Stamford Bridge on a loan with an obligation to buy deal after a major fallout with ex-United manager Erik ten Hag. In September 2023, he accused the Dutchman of making him a scapegoat at Old Trafford after Ten Hag accused him of training poorly.
Sancho did not apologise for his public outburst which led to him being exiled. In January, he was sent out on loan to Borussia Dortmund before returning to United at the end of the season.
During pre-season, it emerged that Ten Hag and Sancho had buried the hatchet however the objective was still to offload the winger which they have now done. United are expected to bag £25m in the sale of the forward which will likely go towards Ruben Amorim's transfer fund next summer.
