James Forrest wants an extension to his Celtic contract which would keep him at the club at the age of 34.

The Hoops legend, 33, has a deal until next summer having signed a three-year extension under Ange Postecoglou in 2022. He played more of a part under Brendan Rodgers during the latter part of last season and has started this campaign well too.

Rather than looking to retire or to wind down his career at a smaller club or lower level, Forrest is keen to remain at the champions. He insists he can still play a part well into his 30s and hopes talks over a contract can begin soon.

He said: “I feel as if I’ve still got a part to play and I still love it. Celtic is such a massive club and I’ve been here my whole career. I’d love to stay on and that will maybe come into discussion at some point. I’m not sure when.”

Forrest is enjoying his football again and added: "The end of last season was really good. It was a few months when I really enjoyed my football. I’ve really enjoyed the start of this season as well. Obviously I’m getting older, but I really enjoy it.

“I got a good run at the end of last season and I’m feeling good again. I’ve not even thought about stopping to be honest. I’m just enjoying playing again.

“I’m looking forward to being involved in things like the Champions League game the other night. I want to keep working hard and being involved in as many games as I can.”
