James Maddison will play no part for England at Euro 2024 after missing out on Gareth Southgate's final 26-man squad for the tournament. Named as part of a provisional list of 33 players, news emerged late on Wednesday evening that the Tottenham man had been left out of the final squad and that he had subsequently departed the camp.

Liverpool duo Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah are also not part of Southgate's squad for the Euros, with the Three Lions boss needing to cut a further four players before midnight on Friday, June 7 when the final lists for the tournament need to be submitted. Maddison's omission from the England party will have come as a huge disappointment to the player as he looked to play a big part for his country in Germany.

One of Tottenham's standout players in the opening months of the season following his summer transfer from Leicester City, the 27-year-old struggled to regain his form after sustaining an ankle injury against Chelsea in November that left him on the sidelines for two months. Facing fierce competition for a spot in Southgate's England team with a number of players such as Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Eberechi Eze all options in his position, Maddison has failed to make the cut and it now means he will return to pre-season training at Hotspur Way a lot earlier than expected.

With England the current favourites to win the Euros, there was the real prospect of Maddison returning for the final part of Tottenham's pre-season had the Three Lions managed to go all the way and he was involved in the squad. However, he will we now be back at the club's Enfield base in early July as Ange Postecoglou and his team prepare for the 2024/25 campaign.

Pedro Porro is another player that Postecoglou perhaps expected to be without at the beginning of pre-season with the right-back in contention for the Spain squad. The ex-Sporting CP man was not even named in La Roja's preliminary squad despite impressing over the course of the campaign for Spurs, though.

A big summer for the football club as they look to improve on their fifth-place finish last season, Postecoglou will in fact have the vast majority of his squad to work with from the beginning of July even though there are two major tournaments taking place with Euro 2024 and the Copa America being played.

Spurs captain Son Heung-min will be one of those players with South Korea not involved in an international tournament, while other players such as Destiny Udogie, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison will have a full pre-season with the club. Guglielmo Vicario, Radu Dragusin, Micky van de Ven and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will be Tottenham's participants at the Euros, with Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso and Rodrigo Bentancur involved at the Copa America.

Tottenham's plans for pre-season are very much in place with six fixtures on the agenda. Starting off with away games against Hearts and QPR, the Lilywhites then play Vissel Kobe in Japan, Team K League and Bayern Munich in South Korea before rounding off their friendlies with another showdown against Bayern at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Here are the players who will be at Hotspur Way in early July for pre-season training:
