James Maddison shows true colours with Bruno Fernandes embrace after Man Utd red card
Tottenham star James Maddison showed his class in his reaction to a red card for Bruno Fernandes in the Premier League clash against Manchester United.
Spurs made the trip to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon and got off to the perfect start. After just three minutes, Micky van de Ven’s run put the ball on a plate for Brennan Johnson to score his fourth goal in four games and put Tottenham 1-0 up.
Ange Postecoglou’s men had chances to make the scoreline better throughout the first half as they dominated the game. But as half time approached, they found themselves with an advantage in both the numbers on the pitch as well as the scoreline.
Fernandes’ challenge caught Maddison high on the leg, with the referee having no hesitation over showing a red card. VAR concluded that the challenge was serious foul play with no clear and obvious error, despite Fernandes appearing to slip while making the challenge.
As Fernandes started to leave the pitch, the cameras showed Maddison with his arm around the United man with the two in conversation. While it is not clear what was said, the Spurs man did seem sympathetic to Fernandes, with some suggestion that he was unsure if the foul deserved a red card.
The chat between the two was good-natured. Fernandes also had his say on the incident before making his way to the sidelines.

Things got better for Spurs early into the second half as they made their numerical advantage count. Just two minutes after the half time break, Dejan Kulusevski made it 2-0 to make it what could be a comfortable second half for Tottenham.
