James Milner sets new Premier League record with strike against Man City

Jurgen Klopp's men may have fallen short of victory, but they know that if their midfielder scores they are guaranteed to take something from the game

Liverpool stalwart James Milner set a new Premier League record after his goal helped Liverpool to a 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Sunday.

The midfielder hit home from the penalty spot to give the visitors the lead after half-time, although Sergio Aguero later converted to give City a share of the points.

Mourinho: United have no plan B

Nevertheless, Milner's goal was enough to set a new landmark in the English top flight.

He has now scored in 47 first-division games- and never finished on the losing side after hitting the target.

Of those games, 37 have ended in victory for his side, with 10 finishing in a tie.

Milner's Liverpool remain in the running for a Champions League spot at the end of the season, as they currently occupy fourth place.

Manchester United's win over Middlesbrough cut the gap to four points, however, with the Red Devils also holding two games in hand over their fierce rivals.
