Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher couldn't resist offering a cheeky reminder of something Gary Neville said only a few weeks ago as the former Manchester United and England right-back commentated on his old side's dismal defeat to Tottenham.

Bruno Fernandes was sent off for Erik ten Hag's team but Manchester United was being pulled apart even before going down to 10 men. Ex-Reds striker Dominic Solanke scored with Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski also finding the back of Andre Onana's net.

During the match, Carragher retweeted a social media post from Sky Sports in which Neville had predicted Manchester United to finish inside the top four places. Liverpool and Tottenham, he thought, would finish outside of the Champions League spots.

Liverpool is currently top of the table having won every game aside from the shock loss at Anfield against Nottingham Forest. Neville did at least select Solanke as his summer signing who would make the most impact.

On commentary, Neville described Manchester United's first-half performance as a "disgrace". It shouldn't be a huge shock, though, that the team that finished eighth last season and hasn't changed much since, including keeping its manager, is not performing at a particularly high level.

"I think Man United are winning that game," Neville said on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, this week. "They struggle to score goals, Man United, but I just think Sunday, it will be a good atmosphere, and Tottenham is always a good game at Old Trafford. I will go 2-1 Man United."

Carragher agreed, adding: "2-1 Man United." He did, add, though, that "when you start to say Man United played well away at Palace and they drew 0-0, it’s like ‘Oh my God’."

Neville said: "Shall we raise them and go 3-1 (after Roy Keane and Ian Wright predicted that result)? I think we will get a third goal late on," to which Carragher replied: "Yeah, let’s go for it."

Liverpool.com says: Manchester United was really, really poor again. How can everyone else see that Erik ten Hag needs to be replaced but those in charge at Old Trafford can't? Only the FA Cup saved him last season but it can't be long before a change is made.
