Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards have been quick to get in on the act after their colleague Gary Neville was ignored by Cristiano Ronaldo before Manchester United’s game against West Ham.
In the much-discussed incident, Sky Sports pundit Neville was left high and dry by Ronaldo as the Manchester United star – and Neville’s former teammate – was heading out for kick-off.
This comes after Neville criticised Ronaldo for his performances and conduct in recent weeks – including the incident at Spurs which saw the Portuguese star leave the ground before the end of a game as he was left on the bench as an unused sub.
Following which Neville claimed United should end their relationship with Ronaldo and that the club would be better without him.
And Neville now seems firmly placed in Ronaldo’s bad books. After greeting Louis Saha and Jamie Redknapp, Neville was given the cold shoulder – much to the delight of Carragher.
“Welcome to the blanked by Ronaldo club @GNev2” tweeted the former Liverpool captain.
Carragher has been the subject of a Ronaldo blanking himself, having regularly criticised the star since he returned to the Premier League with United last year.
Back in August, Carragher was dealt with the same punishment as Neville, getting the cold shoulder treatment from Ronaldo on live TV.
Famous for their on-air disagreements and debates, Neville and Carragher might finally have something in common, with Neville joking that he’s off the Ronaldo’s Christmas card list after the incident.
Richards has also got involved, tweeting a video of Neville being left speechless after Richards asked, “how does it feel to be blanked by your mate?”
A question to which Neville replied: “It tells us something though…it means he is watching.
“I think if I had 570 million followers on Instagram, I wouldn’t be arsed about Gary Neville! He doesn’t behave like someone who has played with me. Or him [Roy Keane] for that matter!”
Keane was a vociferous defender of Ronaldo after the incident at Spurs, which has led people to question the partiality of his punditry when dealing with former teammates.
Ronaldo was not included for the squad in United’s following game after the incident but has since returned to the starting line-up, playing through the middle in United’s 1-0 win against West Ham on Sunday.
United head to Spain to face Real Sociedad in the Europa League this Wednesday, and Neville might be relieved that it is BT Sport who hold the TV rights!
