Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has warned Arsenal to avoid signing Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford, insisting the forward would not improve Mikel Arteta's squad.

On Tuesday night, an interview between Rashford and journalist Henry Winter was published with the United star expressing his desire to seek a new challenge. In doing so, he claimed he did not want to burn bridges with his boyhood club.

Since then, a host of teams have been linked with a move for Rashford as soon as January. In the summer, Arsenal were linked with the winger should he become available but that prospect never materialised.

However, with the Gunners now aware that their approach for Rashford could be warmly received by the player, Carragher has warned them to avoid him. Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, he was asked by Gary Neville if Rashford would improve Arsenal.

"Rashford? No," he exclaimed.

"Oh my god, he had a four-month spell under Erik ten Hag when United were on fire. He’s been a very good player for United and a very good Premier League player, but he’s not [Mohamed] Salah, [Sadio] Mane or [Bukayo] Saka."

Explaining further, Carragher added: "I think it’s time for him to move on but I’ve seen things in the papers about Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG. It’s Marcus Rashford… am I missing something?

"He can’t get in the Manchester United team, he’s not even in the England squad." So far this campaign, Rashford has managed seven goals and three assists in 24 appearances.

However, this included a brace and an assist against League One club Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.
