Glasgow Warriors scrum-half Jamie Dobie is itching to get back on the field after Covid-19 once again enforced postponements to the ever-changing schedule.

Ospreys travel to Glasgow on Saturday in the return of the United Rugby Championship following the postponement of the Warriors’ highly anticipated double-header against Edinburgh.

Glasgow’s hopes of building on a resounding 22-7 Champions Cup win over Exeter were halted by the rise in Covid-19 cases.

Time to return to the field

Dobie said: “It was a strange time for all of us, although we are getting used to it now when things change so late.

“They are the big games for the clubs, they are set at that time of year for a reason, and they are always good. They are ones you want to play in and it was unfortunate we couldn’t play.

“We don’t want any more games cancelled, we want to get back running. We had a bit of momentum behind us before the break so we want to see if we can regather that. Everyone is ready to get back playing.

“We have an important league game this weekend, we are both sitting around the top four, where we want to be, so it’s a chance to get a good result against a side who we are competing directly with.

“Off the back of that we have a couple of massive European fixtures. We had a really good result against Exeter and we want to back that up. So it is an important period for the cub and we have to get straight into it on Saturday.”

Dobie is also looking to catch the eye of Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend.

The 20-year-old made his international debut against Tonga in October and aims to kick on further in 2022.

“Setting goals is important, you want to have something to try to achieve,” the Inverness-born number nine said.

“Getting that first cap was one of my goals and one I was extremely proud to achieve and one I am hoping to build on.

“We have a Six Nations campaign starting soon so I am putting my best foot forward to be involved in that squad and then get involved in the big fixtures. But my focus is on the club game first.”
