Jamie Redknapp gives 'embarrassing' verdict and feels sorry for Man Utd boss Ten Hag for two reasons
Jamie Redknapp has expressed how he feels sorry for Erik ten Hag with a scathing review of him as the Manchester United manager's struggles continue. United suffered a humiliating 3-0 loss to Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, piling more pressure on the Dutchman, who only recently signed a new contract.
The Red Devils have had a shaky start to the Premier League season, with three losses in seven matches, leaving them in 12th place and six points away from the top four. And Redknapp admitted he feels for Ten Hag, especially given his apparent inability to inspire his team. However, this didn't stop the ex-Liverpool player from adding to the criticism.
"It gets to a point where you almost feel sorry for the manager as well. He looks completely out of his depth and he looks like he's struggling to motivate his team," Redknapp shared on Sky Sports, reports the Mirror. "If you're under pressure as a manager, this is where you want to come because you get all your confidence back. It was so easy for Tottenham.

"They looked comfortable, calm, under no duress. Man Utd and Ten Hag are going backwards. You can't complain anymore, he's got his back four in place, he's got all the players at his disposal — there's no excuses. They are rock bottom right now."
Following Sunday's dismal performance, Redknapp is one of many questioning if Erik ten Hag can recover from this setback. "I just don't see where they can go from here," he said. "They're as bad as I've seen a United side. It's embarrassing.
"A club of this stature shouldn't be producing performances like that. They've been outworked and that's been the most damning thing for me over the last few games. Man Utd has become a graveyard for great players. Anyone that comes here seems to go downhill."
He further lamented the squandered potential at United, remarking, "You think of the chances they should be creating, you should be licking you lips. If you're signing here as a centre forward with players like Garnacho and Rashford and you'll get so many opportunities — it's just not happening. Everyone, for whatever reason, is devoid of any confidence and belief."
Despite the crushing defeat against Spurs, United has held off on showing Ten Hag the door, though he now faces a tough series of matches including Porto in the Europa League away and a trip to Aston Villa before the international respite.
Liverpool.com says: Manchester United should have fired Ten Hag at the end of last season and had the Glazers come to the same conclusion that INEOS did, they would be accused of neglect. A new head coach is needed at Old Trafford but that won't instantly solve ll of the problems with Manchester United looking a long way off those at the top.
