Jamie Redknapp picks out the Premier League's biggest bargain signing of the season

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has picked out his bargain signing of the season.

The transfer market has exploded since the start of last summer as records have tumbled with the inflation of fees.

We’ve seen the first £200m player with the deal that took Neymar to PSG and the Premier League has waved goodbye to Philippe Coutinho in move worth £142m.

Paul Pogba is the most expensive player ever to be signed by an English top-flight club following Manchester United’s decision to bring him back to Old Trafford for £89m.

But Pogba is a prime example of how spending fortunes doesn’t always guarantee success and there are still bargains to be found if you look hard enough.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp reckons one of his former clubs have done just that this season.

He has chosen Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson as the best value-for-money signing of 2017/18 after his £8m capture from Hull City.

The Scottish international has looked accomplished at left-back at Anfield and helped guide the club to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Redknapp said: “He was relegated with Hull last season, and that can leave a mental scar, but he has thrived at a big club.

“Defensively tough, Robertson is also dangerous going forwards and he made Liverpool’s winning goal at Palace.

“When you think Manchester City spent £133million on full backs last summer, at £8m Robertson is the bargain of the season.”

City’s spending on attacking full-backs was splashed on Kyle Walker from Spurs, Benjamin Mendy from Monaco and Real Madrid’s Danilo.

When you consider Chelsea splurged £25m bit-part player Davide Zappacosta, it’s hard to disagree with Redknapp’s verdict.
