Jan Siewert named Huddersfield Town manager: Terriers appoint former Borussia Dortmund II boss as new head coach

Jan Siewert has been named the new Huddersfield Town manager on a two-and-a-half year deal, replacing David Wager following his dismissal last week.

The 36-year-old German, who was previously the head coach of Borussia Dortmund‘s reserve team, joins the Terriers on a contract until 2021.

“Jan’s name came to our attention in his previous role as assistant manager and Under-19 coach at VfL Bochum,” club chairman Dean Hoyle at the announcement.

“We first spoke with him over two years’ ago and we’ve kept in communication since, watching his progress with interest.

“He has turned down several approaches to leave Borussia Dortmund in the past, but he jumped at the opportunity to join us. He believes in our ethos and likes what he knows about Huddersfield Town, which made me very proud.”

Wagner left Huddersfield by mutual consent on 14 January, the day after the club's drab draw with Cardiff, claiming he needed time away from the “rigours of football management”.

Mark Hudson took charge of the Terriers 3-0 defeat against Manchester City on Sunday, which left the side rooted to the bottom of the table 10 points adrift of safety.

Hoyle added: “In the short-term, we will continue to fight as hard as possible against relegation from the Premier League. We’re not giving up on that.”
