Jarell Quansah has praised Arne Slot’s impact on him and Liverpool after signing a new long-term contract with the club.

The 21-year-old has signed improved terms on his deal at Anfield, having previously signed a contract in only May 2023. Having enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season though, the Reds have moved quickly to secure his long-term future.

It has been an interesting few months for Quansah. Having been called up to England’s preliminary squad for Euro 2024, he was the subject of interest from Newcastle United during the summer, with the Magpies eyeing him up in a deal that would have seen Anthony Gordon move in the opposite direction.

Liverpool though quickly shut those talks down, with Quansah clearly in the club’s long-term plans. He has found game time harder to come by this season though after a tricky opening game against Ipswich.

Slot ruthlessly substituted the academy graduate for Ibrahima Konate at half-time at Portman Road, and Quansah is yet to start a Premier League game since then. The youngster though has hailed Slot’s influence on him since arriving at Anfield, and named him as one of the factors behind him signing a new deal.

After putting pen to paper, Quansah told Liverpoolfc.com: “I couldn’t be happier at this minute.

“I think the way the new manager has come in, his coaching style has definitely been a massive part of that and I think it is the best club in the world for me to develop at and become a better player.

“I think the players around me, who I’m looking to work hard off and listen to, I think they’re the best in the position at the minute. So, like I said, there is probably no better place I could be.”

As well as Quansah, Konate looks set to earn a new deal. Talks are still in the early stages with the French international, although there is no sense of urgency from either party, with the 25-year-old having impressed Slot greatly since earning back his spot in Liverpool’s side.

Liverpool.com says: It’s great to see Quansah putting pen to paper on a new deal, and brilliant to hear how much of an influence Slot has been on him so far. It does though put the spotlight on the three elephants in the room.

Fans will no doubt be asking questions about the futures of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah. Fingers crossed Quansah’s new contract is a sign that the club is making progress with those three.
