West Ham have told London rivals Arsenal to look elsewhere in their hunt for a new striker after reportedly making an approach for Jarrod Bowen.

The striker has seen his stock rise after arriving at the club in January 2020. The striker signed in a £20m-plus deal and he scored 26 goals and created 21 assists in 101 games for West Ham.

Liverpool were linked with Bowen ate the start of the summer, while Arsenal have been mentioned as suitors.

And that talk was supported this week when CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs confirmed Arsenal have asked about Bowen.

It appears they did not get far though. And according to a West Ham insider on the Claret and Hugh, the 25-year-old forward is going nowhere.

“Speculation that Arsenal were keen prompted us to ask a key London Stadium contact about the situation given that he is now valued at around the £50 million mark,” Claret and Hugh report.

“We were told: ‘It’s the usual fiction. There have been no enquiries and we won’t be welcoming any. He is staying here’.”

Instead of leaving the club, former Hull star Bowen is looking for a contract extension.

Bowen chasing new deal

Bowen penned a five-year deal, which will see him remain at the club until 2025. And such has been his progress at the club he is now “ready to enter into negotiations for an extension”.

It’s a stance which will likely be welcomed at the London Stadium. Jarrod has progressed to the England squad after his rapid rise in the capital.

Seven years ago Bowen was plying his trade for hometown club Hereford United.

“Sometimes I sit back and look back at where we’ve come from, and especially being in an England camp now – not being big-headed, I’ve got to take my hat off to myself from where I’ve come from and what I’ve done,” Bowen said in May.

“It is everything. Everything you dream of when you’re growing up and to get the call, obviously it’s an honour and a privilege of mine.”

Tieing down Bowen to a new deal would be a signal of intent from David Moyes, who has spent over £80m on new signings this summer.

The latest of which was this week when Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal, with the option of a further year, with West Ham paying Sassuolo £30.5m.
