Jarrod Sammut has signed a new one-year deal with Championship outfit Barrow Raiders, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2023 season.

Sammut, 35, signed with the Cumbrian side ahead of the 2022 campaign from London Broncos. He has played an influential role in helping Barrow secure a play-off spot in just their first year back in the Championship following their promotion from League 1.

Paul Crarey’s side could still claim fourth spot from Batley and seal a home play-off if results go their way in the final round of the regular season. Barrow will travel to London, while Batley face Leigh.

Malta international Sammut has scored 20 tries in 25 appearances in all competitions for Barrow, adding a further 45 goals.

Jarrod Sammut on new deal

Sammut said: “It really puts the mind at ease, knowing that your future is secure. It allows me now to focus on finishing the season strongly with the Raiders.

“The style of play that Paul wants is quite free-flowing. With the squad that we’ve got – myself, Hakim Miloudi and Tee Ritson – we’ve had a lot of joy coming from that type of rugby.

“It’s been evident that we’ve enjoyed our season so far. It’s been a great year, but we’ve got to try and end it on a high.”

Chairman Steve Neale added: “We are absolutely delighted to secure the signing of Jarrod Sammut. He has been pivotal in our success this season and has produced many memorable moments that have swung games in our direction.

“He continues to be an exceptional talent at the latter end of his career, and attracted a lot of interest from elsewhere.

“2023 promises to be another great chapter in the club’s history.”
